I almost forgot!

To post, that is....

Well, there really isn't much to post, actually... Yuutaro has the flu.... Umm... So grandma was taking care of him this morning while Tomoko shopped. So I had an apple for breakfast. Then I used the computer for a bit.... Then I had KFC for lunch. Computer, Japanese class.... I was removed from the high class.... Sort of. The classes were all rearranged, so now I'm in a class with a guy from Brazil. He's got the short end of the stick, because none of us speak Portugal, and no one has a Japanese-Portugal dictionary. The language barriers are insane. But we work through it... :p So after that, we came home..... More computer time, dinner, and a bath.... And computer. Yeah. Lots of computer.

Tomorrow I'm going to my grandma's English class.... And then to the elementary school.... Scary.

Today was a sleepy day

I was tired... I unintentionally slept until noon... Yikes! That's going to have to stop.... Oh well.
When I DID finally get up, not much was going on anyway.... So I went online. Mondays are lazy days.... Nothing scheduled. So I just hung around online all day.... Not very interesting, I know. I practiced kanji (to see what I need to review), and found that I could remember 56 characters. That's not bad at all! Though once I review that number will increase substantially.

Some things that did happen today... Well, Yuutaro got sick. :( And he was in the main room, so I ate dinner in here... By myself. It was lonely... So I got online. Online is my solution to everything. Then I took a bath, then a studied a bit... Yeah. Boring day.

I did, however find out something interesting... I've been offered a chance to be a 6th grader. 9th grader to college student to 6th grader to college student... Yeah, my life is interesting. I make the final decision, and I'm fighting with myself about it as I type... I know what I want to do, but I also know what I SHOULD do.... Ugh. Crazy. I think I'll meet the teacher on Wednesday, and make my final decision.... Which will probably be to go for it.... But I'm not sure yet. Being in elementary school (6th is elementary here) seems a bit strange... But then, they are only 3 years younger then me... So who knows? It might be interesting....... I don't know. I'll be thinking about it quite a bit. And it wont be EVERY day... I'll probably only go one or two days a week.... Which might make it stranger still.... I'm not sure. Apparently the 6th grade teacher speaks English really well though... That's a plus.

So now I'm in decision mode.... Which means mental arguments with myself. We'll see where it takes me.....

Presents! :)

Here are some pictures of my presents.

Here's the crab Yuutaro gave me (Sebastion), the daschund Nanako gave me, and the back of the red Labrador shirt Tomoko gave me.

This is the front of the same shirt... Hard to tell from that picture. but it is a true red.

Here's the Yahoo! coat... With a close-up on the Yahoo! :p

And here is the awesome-rific card Kento sent me... Click it to see its full awesome-ness.

So that's what I got. :) Along with some money and the zebra pin. A big thank you to everyone!!!!! :)

Haha! Today was GREAT!!!! :)

Man, today was so much fun! Sundays tend to be fun days for me... :p Ice skating was GREAT!!!!! I would like to be able to do that more.... I was pretty good! Didn't fall down much, although of course I fell down sometimes.... Ended in a fall, actually. :p But I had a BLAST!!!!! It was only my second time ice skating... Yuutaro and Nanako's first. Their dad (Tatsuya) brought us (not Tomoko... I was wrong). It was so much fun! It was hard at first, of course... But I was doing pretty well at the end. I think I'll try blades next time I go roller skating, because they're more ice-skatish, and I'm pretty good on the ice.... No tricks or anything, but I don't stumble as much as on skates.... And it's just easier for me.
It was best after they cleaned the ice, of course... Which was, unfortunately, right before we left. I got a couple runs on it though, so I was thrilled. I love ice skating.... It's so much fun!!!!!!

After that we came back home and had lunch. Curry... Mmm... I ate the same kind the kids were... The not spicy stuff. ;) Emi+spicy=NOOO!!!!!! :p Then I played with Nanako and Yuutaro for a while. We played Mario Party (again... I lost this time), studied a bit, and played outside. I like spending time with them.... Oddly enough. It's lots of fun. :)
Then I got online for a bit.... Online is a must for Emi. ;) And I decided to give the English Bible study a try.
After dinner I was picked up for the Bible study. It's a small group.... Especially because one person was sick.... So it was me and two English guys.... But there were lots of good discussions (worthy of the Westies... Some of them were so random!), lots of laughs.... Good time! :) I really liked it and plan to go again.
Well, I just got home from that.... I guess it ran kinda late. Oh well. I should think about bed now... Maybe some sudoku too. ;)

Happy birthday to me!

Today was my birthday! :) In Japan anyway. In the states my birthday has just begun... ;) Mwahaha.

Anyway, it started out alright.. Wake up at 9:00 and catch a ride from a neighbor to my Japanese class (the 1-on-1 volunteer one). I didn't really want to go, but I did, and it went well.
After that I caught a ride back to the house, and had lunch. Food... Always good. :p Then I got online for a while... Checked my e-mail, and I had already gotten some happy birthdays. :) My mom asked if I found my present in my suitcase, and I hadn't... She put it in one of the front pockets, a place I hadn't checked yet since I only put the battery charger instructions there (something I didn't need that much...). So I found it, and opened it. It was a zebra pin we got at Bi-mart a while back (that I had forgotten about, actually). :) It looks good with my beaver shirt. :p

After that we went to a talk thing... It was somebody from Florida (he's an English teacher here now though) basically talking about his life and how he ended up in Japan. It was nice to have something in mostly English... And fun to listen to. :p I decided I want to go to Florida... I want to go to the Kennedy Space Center. That place sounds awesome.... I think they were the ones the OMSI video conference was with (the one I went to in 6th or 7th grade).
After he told his story they had a question and answer kinda thing, and someone asked about BSE, or mad cow disease. Now, there's probably a reason behind this... I've come to the conclusion that Japan reports about 2 things on their news. Livedoor (an Enron-like scandal) and American beef. Evidently they started allowing American beef here again, but one person screwed up and sent the wrong part... So now they have to talk about it on the news EVERY SINGLE DAY! It's getting old... Very fast.
This is when Kurt (the speaker) gave us an interesting fact.... One I researched when I got home and found evidence that it's probably true.... America has had one confirmed case of BSE, right? And that cow was from Canada. Because of that one case, Japan stopped importing our beef. Well, interesting fact.... Japan has had TWENTY confirmed cases of mad cow! TWENTY! And they're worried about OUR beef? I mean, 20 isn't enough to worry about either, but America is significantly bigger, and we've had ONE case!
So I thought that was pretty funny. Especially because no one in America really cares about mad cow... It's just Japan that seems to be freaked about it. I'll wait until they confirm quite a few more cases before I start getting concerned.

After that, we came home. I got online again, and got to chat with Kento for a while. Then I had dinner, and a cheese tart... Yummmm... That cheese tart has been waiting for me since Thursday! And it was delicious.
After dinner, Tomoko and Nanako gave me my birthday presents... :) A doggy shirt and plushie. Yes, plushie. I've been on Neopets too long.
Anyway, they're really cute... :p I'll post pictures.

So my birthday went well. I guess this makes me 15 now.... I'm OK with that. It'd be sad if I wasn't...
But anyway, today was pretty good, but I'm excited about TOMORROW! :) Can you guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Can you, can you? At least try? Oooh..... It's Sunday, so Grandma works again..... So......

I'm going ice skating!!!!!! :) With Yuutaro, Nanako, Tomoko, and whoever else might be coming (I know those three are going, anyway). I'm so excited!!!!!! :) Ice skating! I haven't been ice skating in at least two years! And I've only been once.... I'm really excited.... Yay!

I'm also excited about Thursday, which is the planned day for going to Chiba Zoo. Which means LOTS more animal pictures are on the way... :p

Japanese pancake pizza whatever... I can't spell its real name without wikipedia's help.

Here are the pictures from the 27th. :)

Just getting started! The batter was spooned out, then time to add meat and shrimp!

Mmm.. Soba. This is the part that went in the middle.....

A finished product!

An even more finished product! Decked out with sauce and stuffs.

And the adorable pooch that wanted to eat our meat. This dog is the reason I've come to the conclusion that poodles are pretty cute if their hair isn't cut all crazy-like.

1/27 post... Why am I making this a backlogged post?

Why am I using the word backlogged so much? Because I like it! :p Anyway, I wrote this about 15 minutes ago, while blogger was being mean to me...

1/27/2006 11:02 PM -

I still might get this up on the 27th... If I'm lucky. Blogger is picking on me though. It wont let me upload my cheesecake in a cup pictures. So whether that works or not will decide if I get this up tonight or not.

Anyway, today was my "birthday party" kind of! I slept pretty late (11:00? 11:30? Something like that), then got up and got dressed. My grandma was out, so that was OK. :p When my grandma got back, her friend came and picked us up to go to her house. She was making lunch for us, and had gotten cake. It was also for my grandma's birthday, which was the 25th.
For lunch we had okonokiyaki, sometimes called "Japanese pancakes" in America, although it seems to be more like a Japanese pizza. They were quite good, and I got to help make some of them. I'll post pictures later... They have meat, veggies, and stuff in them... The kind I had had yakisoba noodles and an egg on it, almost like a sandwich. Good stuff!
After eating, we made some more... Those were the ones I helped with. Enough for dinner for quite a few people... I don't know whether anyone besides Grandma and me ate them, but hey... :p
Then we had cake! A delicious crepe cake with fruit... So good. So very very good.
I was then given a coat... A shiny coat. :p It's a really nice coat, actually. Kind of funny that it advertises Yahoo! on the back, but it's a nice coat.... ;) Yahoo! should pay me to wear it. Even though it's a nice coat.

After that, we drove out to an egg farm... The same one Kento and I went to last time we came to Japan. Kento might remember.... Lots of chickens. It kind of smelled bad.
Anyway, we got some eggs, then left. Grandma went to the eye doctor, and I was dropped off at the house. Since then it's been a pretty normal day. Internet, dinner, studying, bath.
Oh, and Yuutaro gave me a crab. :p It's from The Little Mermaid, but I can't remember its name.... Someone will have to tell me, or I'll look it up. :p

Well, it let me upload my cheesecake pictures finally, so now I can finish getting caught up. :p I might wait until tomorrow to post pictures from today though. Probably will. I need to head to bed soon.

1/26 post.... Wasn't feeling well... Boring day

1/26/2006 9:52 PM -

The backlogging continues. I was feeling really sick today and just felt like chatting, so I didn't do any of the stuff today... And blogger is down anyway, so that doesn't matter much. It says 4-4:30 PM PST, which should be 9-9:30 AM JST... Well, 12 hours later it's still down! So I guess that works as a good excuse.

This morning my dad left for the states.... I got up to have breakfast with him, then went to the train station to say bye. After that we went shopping.. That is, Tomoko, Grandma, and me. We bought bread for lunch (which I didn't eat because I was getting sick), and some stuff at the grocery store... Then we came home.
About that time was when I started feeling bad, so I went to my room to kick back for a while. Chatted online... Basically all day. Had some dinner, but besides that I've been online.... Oh, I wasn't online in the bath either. But other than that........

So today was incredibly uneventful. Hopefully blogger will go back up soon so I can get caught up on everything.

Food pictures from the 25th!

The number of food pictures I post is insane. I could make a blog simply full of food. I already have an iPhoto album devoted to food...

Mmm... Sukiyaki. A random assortment of stuff being cooked at the table... Fun fun. :p

Stuff in raw egg... There's some mochi, some tofu, some meat, and some mushrooms... :)

This just amused me.. cheesecake in a cup! And it was pretty good, considering it was cheesecake in a cup....

1/25 post... Back "home"

1/25/2006 10:51 PM -

Yes, I have internet again... But I'm still getting the backlogged stuff up, and I want it to be in chronological order.... So this one will be a backlogged post too. Backlogged might be a word I made up... Oh well.

So today I got to sleep in. My dad had a doctors appointment, so I got to sleep.... Yay! When he got back we had lunch. Mmmm... Lunch! Then we went to "Electric Town". I decided to try to buy a USB AC adapter for my iPod (which isn't working right now because it's in mid-update.... Needs to be plugged in to complete, and I didn't bring my wall charger with me). My dad bought me an off-brand one that didn't work (we were told it would... Maybe it would if it wasn't mid-update).... Waste of roughly $12.
After that we went back to Kanda. We stayed for a while longer (I did sudoku...), then caught a train to Tokyo station, where we caught a train to Kimitsu. I did lots of sudoku....

When we got back to Kimitsu, we took a taxi to the house. Then we had dinner. Sukiyaki!!!! Yum yum yum! It's great with raw egg... Which is safe to eat here. :p Then we had cheesecake in a cup... That was interesting... And strawberries! Mmm... Good food!
After dinner I worked on my computer lots... And took a bath/shower. I love Japanese baths.... Whoever thought of the shower room is brilliant. It's a whole room that's just a shower (and bath tub)..... Brilliant!
When I got out I decided to do more sudoku.... I've been doing the easy to hard book, and I decided to start the easy book.... So I don't have to do the really hard ones then downgrade immensely. I only had to downgrade a little. ;)

Oh, and today is my grandma's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! :)

Oh, and to clarify the Pixar news..... Since I was so worried about that... :p Pixar was sold to Disney (sad...), but Steve Jobs (owner of Apple, who used to own Pixar) is the top shareholder of Disney..... So it's OK, I hope! Jobs is now on Disney's board... So hopefully it's good news!

G'night.... :) Sleepy time!

1/25 post... I'm being dramatic

1/25/2006 11:47 AM -

I just got terrible, terrible news!!!! And I really hope I misunderstood.... Apple sold PIXAR???? To Disney, of all companies??? WHY??? Nooo!!!!!!!!!!! Not Pixar! That COULD give hope to Disney, but I see it more as dooming Pixar..... I love Pixar! How could they sell it to a dying company??? They were only supposed to do one more movie with Disney! Pixar had a future..... Why throw it away like that??? It's tragic! I really really hope we misunderstood.......... I'll have to check into the matter in English later.

This really has nothing to do with anything I posted recently

Maybe I posted about them a while back... I can't remember now. But I took these on the 24th, so figured I'd post them with the 24th posts. THese are what I call duck/pigeon/dove cookies. I used to think they were ducks, then thought they were pigeons, before finally figuring out they were supposed to be doves. This realization was made difficult by the fact that doves and pigeons are the same thing here (both called "hato")... But anyway, I like thinking I'm biting a duck's head off. :p Now I just call them bird cookies... It's easiest.

More food, and people! (pictures from the 24th)

I've been told that even with large quantities of pictures, things are loading fine for at least one dial-up user... :) So I guess I can stop apologizing to dial-up users... Unless they have REALLY bad dial-up.

Ramen... Mmm... With veggies and stuff! It was really good, but big... I could only eat about half of it.

Place mats are awesome... Don't you just want to hug it??? :p

This is Nao and me at the dinner table.

Mmm... Shyabu shyabu! Meat......

Here's Nao's family and me, as taken by my dad. There I am cheating with tongs... :p

Tired... And stuff.

I think I'll finish the backlogged posts tomorrow....

Food! And more food! (pictures from the 23rd)

Dial up users probably hate my blog....

Obento!!!!! Ate this on the train... Lots of stuff that I don't know what it is.... Man, that was bad grammar. Oh well.

There on the right is my misokatsu, and on the left is my dad's giant misokatsu.

A close up on my misokatsu (which by the way, if I didn't say it already, is tonkatsu with miso on it).

He ate it! That was what was left of my dad's giant misokatsu.

And best of all.... The pudding!

1/24 post... Misokatsu! And Nao's family. :)

1/24/2006 11:08 PM -
So I said I'd write about yesterday today, so I'm keeping my word. Even though today was tons more interesting.

We stayed in Kanda night before last, and got up at about 8:30-9:00 to catch another train. It was BACK to Osaka for us! Took the train to Osaka (3 hours of sudoku fun... And obento!), then took the subway to the Mekiki office in Osaka, which was conveniently attached to the subway station. Stayed there for several hours.... My dad had a meeting. I typed for a bit (wrote my detailed Osaka entry)... The meeting took a while, so I messed around on my computer.
Then finally the meeting was over, and my dad and I had another train to catch! We went to Nagoya to meet with a relative of Kanda's (who's real name my dad told me, but I already forgot... I'm too used to just calling her Kanda).
We rode the train for about an hour, then arrived at Nagoya. Quickly checked into a hotel, then went back to the station to meet our relative (who is not related by blood, but still...). We met Kanae at the station, then went to find a restaurant to try a Nagoya specialty.... Misokatsu! It's tonkatsu with miso.... And I loved it! My dad got the Waragi tonkatsu, which was like a jumbo size tonkatsu. It was HUGE!!!!!!! I just had the misokatsu, which was great... Yummy! Pictures will come later.
After that, we went out for pudding, to my dad's favorite pudding place (according to him). It was SO GOOD!!!!! Best pudding I've ever eaten!!!!! Picture of that will come too.... But it will not compare to the beautiful beautiful taste.....
After that, we decided to go for the Nagoya view.... We went up into a tower to some windows with a great view. My pictures were strange because of the glass, but I'll post one or two anyway. It was really pretty. Kind of big.... But hey.
After that, it was to the hotel. Kanae caught a train back home, and my dad and I went to our hotel. I connected to the internet via ethernet, and posted some stuff in my blog.... Although more backlogged stuff will come. Eventually it was time for bed, so I had to get offline.

This morning we got up, then went to breakfast. Bread... Toasty bread. Good toasty bread. Provided by the hotel.
After that it was back to the room to use the net for a bit. Used that until we had to catch another train.
We took the train to Tokyo, about 2 hours (of sudoku, of course!). Then we took another train to meet with Yuko, one of my dad's friends. I hadn't seen her in AGES. I could barely remember her.... We went to lunch, where I had some really good ramen. MUCH better than that instant stuff college students in America live off of....
After that, Yuko had to go to some meeting at TIS, Tokyo International School. My dad and I had an hour to kill, so we searched for a post office we saw earlier (my dad needed money, and the post offices here also act as banks). Then we went to a café, where I had a piece of strawberry shortcake and some iced tea.... Yummy.
Then at 3:00 it was back at TIS, for a Japanese class. We were guests in the older kids beginning level non-native Japanese class. It was interesting... Kind of fun. I forgot how insane elementary kids are, but it was still fun.
After that my dad went.... Somewhere. I'm not 100% sure where. I stayed in the lobby thing of TIS, with Yuko's daughter, Nao. I hadn't seen Nao for years either.... When I was 9, or something. Anyway, we stayed in the lobby-ish area. I used my iBook, with TIS' open wifi network. There was also an iMac (old one... "mochi computer"), that another kid was using.... We were both on Neopets. :p It was awesome. I also chatted with Kento a bit, since he was on.
After my dad came back, Nao, Yuko, him, and me all went to Yuko's house. It was fun for me, because I was able to speak English so freely, while being understood. It was nice.... Really nice. Nao's little sister (3 years old) was kind of crazy (a carbon copy of me when I was little)... But it was still fun. :p I showed them some pics on my computer, then Nao and I went to the store to pick up some stuff for dinner. When we came back it was dinner time.... Shyabu shyabu. Strange name, good food. Pictures will be included later. I cheated... Using tongs for the meat instead of chopsticks... I was having a bad chopsticks day though, and when it involves boiling water (drop meat in boiling water, then take it out and eat it), I'll take the tongs.... They worked well. :p
After dinner I went up to Nao's room and we talked for a while. It was fun. :) And I loved talking in English again.... I know I need to practice Japanese more, but some time for English is welcomed... Really welcomed. And it was fun. :)
Eventually though, we had to go. I was invited to go back, which I probably will do happily. There was also a trading of e-mail addresses in order.... :) Then it was time to go, though.

My dad and I walked to the train station, then got tickets (it wasn't part of JR, so our rail passes wouldn't work). We took the train to a station where we could transfer to a JR line, then did so. Within a few stops however, we were kicked off the train. There had been an accident at a station on the line, and because of the set up of that line (a circle), they had to stop ALL trains.
We got off and switched over to another train, along with many many people.... As we went to more stations, the train just kept packing more and more. People kicked off the other line were switching to the train we were on, which runs parallel (for a while anyway) to the line that was stopped. As we got closer to Tokyo station, we got less room. I can honestly say I have never been so squished. My back was flat against the door, my dad was DIRECTLY in front of me (no way I could have fallen forwards..... Too squished), and there was some Japanese guy squished against my side.... On my other side were seats.... I know that isn't TOO uncommon in Japan during rush hour, but it put a WHOLE new meaning to packed like sardines.... We were more packed then sardines! THere was honestly no room to move... It was INSANE! Like nothing I've ever experienced before.... I'm not claustrophobic (I actually like most small spaces), but if that was anyone other than my dad in front of me (which was awkward enough), or if I wasn't by the door and seats, I probably would have waited for another train....
Fortunately lots of people got off at Tokyo. We decided to also, and switch to another line that would get us to Kanda. A LOT less crowded. Still a bit crowded, but nothing compared to that blue line train (the one that was PACKED)... Yikes!

However, we survived the ordeal, and made it back to Kanda in one piece each. We walked to Kanda's house, munched some stawberries, and that's where I am now....

I think I'll practice some kanji (got some Japanese notebooks to practice with!), then head to bed. Back to Kimitsu tomorrow!

Osaka Castle!!! Picture edition

More apologizes to dial-up users.

Lots of Osaka Castle pictures.... The second to last one is one of the golden koi near the top of the castle.

These are pictures of Osaka taken from the 8th floor, the view point. I love the "invisible" building in the second one (of course it's really just a reflection, but it looks awesome).

Osaka Castle again, from the bottom... Through trees.

Rulers of the castle! Pieces of the original castle, anyway.

1/23 post... Osaka... Not a summary

1/23/2006 2:17 PM -

In Osaka again now. Just can't get enough of the place. ;) Actually, my dad had another meeting.... That's besides the point.

So as for today so far, not much going on. Wake up, go to the station, ride a shinkansen to Osaka (lots of sudoku and looking at snow....), then taking the subway here. Not much.

However, yesterday I didn't get to write much about what I did.... I was really tired, and wanted to go to sleep. Which was then hindered by my dad's snoring..... But oh well.

So yesterday I got up, took a shower, then went downstairs for breakfast, courtesy of the hotel. Had some fish, some eggs, some sausage, some yogurt, some bread.... Good breakfast! :p Then we went back upstairs to kill some time before catching a train to the Osaka Castle. I practiced my kanji and found that I could easily remember 43 kanji characters. My dad taught (and re-taught in some cases) me a few more, so I probably know about 50 now.
After that, we checked out, stored some stuff in a coin locker at Shin-Osaka (the train station), then caught a train to Osaka Castle. We met Genki, the son of the guy who treated us to puffer fish, at the station. He went with us to the castle. We walked from the station to the castle, which wasn't too far.... But from the gate to the actual building was insane! Lots of stairs, lots of slopes, lots of walking.... That thing is HUGE!!!!!!! Beautiful, but HUGE!!!!! When we got to the museum part of the castle, the building, my dad bought our tickets to go in. We took the elevator up to the 5th floor, then went up to the 8th floor, which was the viewpoint. An amazing view of the park (where the castle is), and the city.... Wow! I got a few good pictures, and my dad got some too. I'll be sure to post some.
After walking around the viewpoint, we started down the stairs. It's set up like a museum, so there was lots to see. A lot of funny hats..... And the samurai stuff was REALLY cool! Lots of really old stuff was there.... The samurai stuff looked really heavy.... And the king's hats made me laugh.... One looked like a porcupine... Not really... But it did to me. :p A lot of the history stuff I didn't really understand, since they only had a little bit in English, but looking at the stuff was still really cool
On the second floor we came across something that really made us laugh..... It was a business, involving remakes of the funny hats! It was ¥300 to try them on.... I thought that was so funny. .. Clever business really... I didn't do it, but I'm sure lots of silly tourists would.
On the first floor was the gift shop, where I found my favorite "silly tourist" item! Some places in Japan sell little medallions, and either a keychain or pendant to put it in. You can also get your name and date inscribed in the medallion for a little extra. I happen to LOVE these things.... Silly tourist item, I know, but I love them.... I have 6 or 7 at home. So of course, I had to get one. It was the first thing I bought in Japan. I bought the gold coin (there was a silver one too, but I like gold... :p) and pendant, because I always get the pendant.... Then got it inscribed for ¥30. I'm wearing it now.... It's very shiny. :p
After buying my pendant, which I was very happy about, we went back out to the park. We went up some more stairs to look out at the city. Even at the base of the building you're still pretty high over the city, so it was a nice view. Then I went and pretended to shoot an invisible gun out of one of the little notches in the wall.... No reason really, just felt like it.
After that, we went back down the hill. Near the bottom there were some of the original stones from the castle. Just sitting there in the middle of the park. I hopped up on one and made myself the self-proclaimed ruler of the castle. My dad got a picture of Genki and me on the stone... It's a good picture. I'll post it later (once again, technically I'll post this later too ;)).

After that, we went back to the station. Genki went home, and we left to lunch with some people in Kyoto. First we went back to Shin-Osaka (the Osaka train station, where we had left some of our stuff in a coin locker). We took the train to Kyoto, then took a taxi to where we were having lunch. We had a great lunch of sashimi and lots of other stuff that I'm still not entirely sure what they were. Lots of assorted yummy stuff though.... Except for the pumpkin. That part wasn't yummy. Me and squash don't get along....
Anyway, we had lunch, then took a taxi back to Kyoto station. We switched to an earlier train, since ours wasn't leaving for 2 hours (there was another leaving in 10 minutes), then took that to a place that I don't know the name of..... We had time to kill, so that's when we went on a quest for a wifi network. Our failed journey..... I would have either needed to pay for the wifi or a Japanese provider.... Strange.
So instead of getting wifi, we ended up at Starbucks.... Which was actually an attempt to get wireless.... One that failed, since the Starbucks didn't have its own wireless, because it was in a train station (JR, Japan Railway Group, had the wireless, and they charged). So instead we got a snack. My dad got me cheesecake and a hot chocolate while I tried to get the wifi to work.... Good food (and drink), bad attempt at internet-ness. ;)
Since our internet quest failed, we took a train to wherever it was that my dad's meeting was at. Tried to find wifi there too.... Failed. Found a couple pay computers (wrote about those yesterday), so we used those for 10 minutes... Until they stole our money.
Since our internet quest was going so badly, we decided to just go to the meeting. We walked to the Mekiki office, then waited in the room where the coats were. I tried to get internet there too... It was an open network with a great connection, didn't ask for a password or anything, but Safari kept telling me I wasn't connected to the internet. So I played Game Boy instead.
After a while my dad and I went into the room where all the people were.... At this point I was sleepy and confused, so I'm still not entirely sure what was going on......... But we ate food. That much I know! And some people talked to me. I saw one of the people I met when I went to LA with my dad a few years ago.... Which was kind of weird. But oh well.
My dad was talking with lots of people, and I was getting really tired.... So I went back to the room where everyone left there coats, and played more Game Boy. Some people were going in and out, but I was mostly ignored.... Except for when this one guy went in and made a balloon poodle... Then several people were talking to me. But mostly I was either with my dad or being ignored. Or both. :p
I'm still not entirely sure what was going on there, so I can't really say much about it.... But eventually we left and took the subway to Kanda. We walked to Kanda's house, ate some strawberries and duck/pidgeon/dove cookies (they're really dove cookies.... But I thought they were ducks, then I thought they were pigeons, before figuring out they were doves), then I wrote my entry from yesterday.... Then I tried (and eventually succeeded) in sleeping, despite my dad's loud snoring.

So yesterday was a long busy day. My knees are killing me today, because of all those stairs... Both at the castle and subways..... Mostly castle. I'm alive and well though, and I hope no one is worrying about me (mainly my mom), since I don't think I really said when exactly I was leaving and coming back.... Hopefully I'll get a wifi network I can get on for free soon! And just to clarify if I DO get to post this later, I'll be going back to Chiba on the 25th.

1/22 post... Sleepy, but a summary!

1/22/2006 10:45 PM -

So tired.... I think I'll try to keep this short. I'll write more about it tomorrow.... I hope!!!! So... Quick summary of today.

Up early, breakfast at the hotel. Yum! Caught a train to the Osaka Castle, and went there. Very cool. I'll post pics later, and hopefully write more about it.... Too tired right now. Almost sleep time. Then we caught a train to Kyoto, where we had lunch... More yum. My dad got a picture.... I'll have him send it to me, and post it too. Those pictures of food... Good stuff. ;) Then we caught a train to the Tokyo area. My dad had a meeting thing here, so we had to come back. We tried (and failed) to kill some time by attempting to find a wifi connection I could use.... Preferably a free one. Failed at that... Oh well. We had a snack at Starbucks, then caught a train to the area where the meeting was. Tried (and failed) to find a wifi connection there, so we ended up using a pay computer for a while.... Stole our money! Grrr.... ¥100 for 10 minutes is ridiculous anyway. But they stole our money (when we tried to get 10 more minutes), so it ended up being ¥200 for 10 minutes.... Each! Grrr.... Should have done the ¥500 for a day for wifi at the train station.... Oh well. Went to the Mekiki meeting thing, where I was very tired and a bit confused by the whole thing. Then back to Kanda for SLEEEEEEP! :p And strawberries... Yum. Gotta love those Japanese strawberries! They're even better than Hood berries... That's saying something coming from me!

I also practiced Kanji this morning. Found out I already have over 40 memorized. I was proud of myself..... I'll have to take a picture of what I can remember sometime in the next few days.... I can write my last name now. :)

OK. Really need sleep now.... I'll have time to kill on the train tomorrow (have to go to Osaka again.... 3 hour train ride), so maybe I'll write then. A more detailed report of today. :p

ところで ふぐ が すき です... Still

Fugu pictures!!!!! This is puffer fish, poisonous if not prepared properly, but delicious.

Fugu sashimi! This is the stuff you eat raw. Good stuff.... Chewy, kind of like octopus. But tastier.

This is what we started with.... Lots of veggies my dad ate for me, some stuff I thought was spicy, and the yummy yummy sashimi.

Fried fugu.... Good stuff! We had already eaten most of it when I remembered to get a picture.

This is the part we got to cook... Kind of a sukiyaki kinda thing. That being held up with the chopsticks is fugu.

This is the rice porridge-type stuff. Looks kind of scary... But it tastes like mochi!

Kyoto pictures!

I continue to apologize to dial-up users.

Here is a bell at the entrance to the Golden Pavilion.

Those are just a bunch of pictures of the pavilion, me at the pavilion, my dad at the pavilion.... Lots of pictures of the pavilion.

Here is the outside of the 1001 statues place.... No photos allowed inside, so I took a couple outside instead.
